Celebrating 25 years of San Mateo PAL

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the San Mateo Police Activities League, beginning with some of our first activities such as Camping, Judo, Soccer, and Junior Giants in 1997. We have been working hard to build the bond between cops & kids and support youth and families in our community with social, emotional, and physical development opportunities. And now, it's time to celebrate!

A glimpse of what PAL is about

Since 1997, San Mateo PAL has provided recreational, educational, and leisure activities for free to thousands of San Mateo youth.  Supported by a volunteer Board of Directors and staff consisting of Police Officers, Parks and Recreation Staff, and City Employees, the San Mateo Police Activities League is building a stronger and safer community through kids - our most valuable asset.

While our Explorers were participating in their first challenge today, our little Junior Giants were stepping up to the plate as well. Literally.

Today was Opening Day of our Junior Giants program, which runs through the first week of August. We are proud this is one of our longest ...running programs in the 25 years PAL has existed.

Thanks to the San Mateo Police Department officers who came out to support our program and to Chief Barberini for catching the first pitch thrown out by David, 2021’s Willie Mac winner.

It was a beautiful day at Los Prados Park to play ball! ⚾️

We are extremely proud of our Police Explorer Post 211, who stepped up to the plate today to participate in their first Explorer Challenge. The “challenge” consisted of 5 crime scene scenarios (Felony Traffic Stops, Crisis Negotiation, Domestic Violence, Accident Investigation, and Building ...Searches) in addition to an obstacle course component.

We are proud to say our team came in first place in 3 of the 5 scenarios and missed First Place overall, by just 7 points. These amazing teens have given much of their time to train for this event, which mimics scenarios real police trainees face in a police academy setting.

We are grateful to the team of amazing San Mateo Police Department Explorer Advisors (both sworn and non-sworn) who have mentored this group. They are very proud of today’s outcome and look forward to continuing to train these future leaders.

If you have a teen aged 14-20yr who is interested in law enforcement or just honing leadership skills, visit cityofsanmateo.org/2813/Police-Explorer-Program for more information.

Congrats Post 211, we are very proud of you all!

Another #SundayFunday at Hillsdale Shopping Center. Today is Art Day, and these little Picasso’s are coloring their hearts out on this table scape of the mall. If you’re looking for something for your kids to do, bring them here for some coloring fun. We’ll be here until 3pm. 🎨

Join us for Art Day today at the Hillsdale Shopping Center! We will be located inside of the mall near the Macy's mall entrance. Congratulations to our very own Lisa TJ, who recently left PAL for a full-time position as a Community Service Officer (CSO) with San Mateo Police Department. Today, she cleared her Field Training Program (FTO) and is a solo CSO. We wish her the best in her new position, but know her heart is still... with PAL and our kids, and is now able to impact them in a different way.
