San Mateo PAL Pulse December 2022

San Mateo PAL Pulse

We're Making A List and Checking It Twice!

This year through the hard work of Detective Thornburg (a Marine) and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, San Mateo PAL staff, officers, Rookie, and Workday volunteers came together to wrap 500 toys for upcoming police and PAL holiday events. For a night Santa's workshop was in full effect! It was so special seeing such a collaborative effort between organizations.

The generosity of those who donated toys or time to assist us in bringing smiles to the faces of children in our community is what the holiday spirit is all about. Thank you SO much to the United States Marine Corp and to Workday employees for helping us ”Build the Bond Between Cops & Kids!”

News and Updates

"Giving Tuesday" May Be Over But There Is Still Time To Support

unnamed (5)

Giving Tuesday was a global campaign that took place on November 29th and is where people around the world come together on the same day to support a cause close to their hearts. This year, our goal was to reach $15,000 to help our local PAL youth and families struggling during the holidays, and we came in at just around $10,100. Even though we did not reach our goal on Giving Tuesday, we are hopeful we can meet this goal between now and the end of the year!!

Every day we offer incredibly low-cost to completely free activities for kids and their parents, helping to improve their mental health, wellness, education, and future outcomes. We support families when they need it most! In addition, we offer many fun experiences for families during the holidays, such as a Santa Brunch, presents, family nights, and gifts delivered by Santa Cop.

Your support is critical, and every dollar helps! All donations will directly serve the local community during the holidays and beyond! Thank you for being part of the San Mateo PAL team. Together, we can make a difference.

In every newsletter, we will be spotlighting a PAL staff member or volunteer. Without them, our PAL programs would not be as successful as they are.

This month we are spotlighting:

Heidi Ng, Marketing Coordinator

Heidi has been the Marketing Coordinator for San Mateo PAL since December 2021 and her primary duties include creating content for our social media accounts, advertising our programs and services, and providing programmatic support.

'It's been an exciting and eventful year serving the youth of San Mateo and I look forward to contributing more to the PAL program!"

Heidi is born and raised in San Francisco and has earned degrees in Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of California, Davis. Her hobbies include playing golf, traveling, and playing with her family dog, Woodrow! One of her travel goals is to visit a McDonald's in every country and so far she's been to one in London, Holland, Canada, Germany, Iceland, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, Greece, and of course the US!
