Meet PAL's New Director of Special Events and Stewardship Marie Ivich

Marie Ivich Square

Marie has had a successful career focused on working in the nonprofit sector and most recently served as the Development Manager for the Friends of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo, a beloved early-education science institution that has been engaging a child’s curiosity in science with hands-on exhibits and animal encounters for more than 90 years.

She is excited to bring her event planning and fundraising skills to her new role as the Director of Special Events and Stewardship for PAL. She looks forward to partnering with the PAL staff and Board of Directors to help fulfill PAL’s mission of supporting youth in the local community.

Marie has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Notre Dame de Namur University. She is a native San Matean and currently resides in the Laurelwood neighborhood with her husband and dog. She has two grown sons who are attending college, enjoys reading, going on walks and hikes, and is learning to play pickleball and golf!

"With many exciting PAL events planned this year, I look forward to connecting with each of you soon. In the meantime please reach out with ideas and suggestions on how to best support PAL. My door is always open!"

To contact Marie, please email: mivich@cityofsanmateo.org or call 650-522-7713.

Welcome to PAL, Marie!

Mental Health Matters 2024: 5K Run/Walk and Wellness Fair Recap

News Update

Last month we put together another successful 5K for PAL as we partnered with Star Vista and Stride For Awareness to host Mental Health Matters 2024 - 5K Run/Walk and Wellness Fair. It was the perfect day for the local community to come together to create awareness about the importance of mental health. We had over 500 participants for both the 5K and wellness fair, food trucks, mental health wellness exhibitors and live yoga! It was amazing to see the community come together and we hope you will join us next year.

Meet Our PAL Staff

David Esquivel

Daniel Esquivel

In every newsletter, we will be spotlighting a PAL staff member or volunteer. Without them, our PAL programs would not be successful and we so grateful for their hard work and dedication.

This month we are spotlighting:

David Esquivel, Community Services Coordinator

David brings with him a real passion for serving the community and is experienced when it comes to Parks and Recreation. Originally from San Jose, David has worked with individuals of all ages and backgrounds throughout settings such as teen center, preschool, summer camps, active adult programs, and public events. Most recently, he spent some time in Los Angeles while working with underserved families in need of mental health services. Aside from advocating for community enrichment, however, David also enjoys hiking, trying new foods, and being a husband.

Welcome to PAL, David!
