PAL's Snow Play Day at Leland Snowplay

Last month we took a group of PAL kids on a field trip to the Leland Snowplay park, where they went tubing, built snowmen, and frolicked in the snow! For some of our kids, this was their first time visiting the snow. We are so happy that we can provide opportunities like this for them.
We would also like to take this time to thank the McDonald's Golden Grants Program for sponsoring a portion of the transportation costs for this trip. Their generous donation helped us secure transportation with a safe and reputable company. We hope to have more events like this in the future!

News and Updates
San Mateo Police Department Explorer Challenge

San Mateo Police Department hosted the 2023 San Mateo County Explorer Challenge at the College of San Mateo. This is a friendly competition between several Police Explorer Posts across the county.
The challenge consisted of a Physical Agility Course and six demanding real-life scenarios that deal with: Domestic Violence Investigation, Ambush, Traffic Collison Investigation, Burglary In Progress, Suspicious Person & High-Risk Traffic Stop.
We could not be more proud of our two San Mateo Explorer teams who took home a total of nine awards and won Second and Third Place Overall!
Natalie Martin
In every newsletter, we will be spotlighting a PAL staff member or volunteer. Without them, our PAL programs would not be as successful as they are.
This month we are spotlighting:
Natalie Martin, Recreation Specialist
Hi everyone, my name is Natalie, and I am a Recreation Specialist for PAL.
Currently, I help to lead some of our programs, including our cooking class, and I occasionally teach yoga at our PAL wellness events. I also assist our Fund Development Director, Lisa Tartaglia, with donor events, sponsorships, and donations requests.
I have been with PAL for almost a year, and have loved every minute! My favorite field trip in PAL is the overnight white water rafting trip every summer, and I can't wait to go again this year.

PAL'S Place Is Open - Come Visit!
Our new teen hangout, PAL's Place, is open at the Shoreview Recreation Center. It's a dedicated space for middle schoolers to visit, hang out, play sports, or do homework in the presence of other PAL members. It's a collaborative space with computers, comfortable chairs, PlayStation, and sports equipment to check out for use in the park.
PAL's Place is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:30 pm to 6 pm. It is for PAL members only, so become a PAL member, fill out this membership form here.
Feel free to email: smpal@cityofsanmateo.org with any questions. Hope to see you there!
