San Mateo PAL Pulse

Mental Health Matters - 5K and Community Wellness Fair

In just a few short weeks, we will be hosting our annual Lights & Sirens dinner. It will feature a live and silent auction, plated dinner, "hosted" cocktail reception, and youth performances from our PAL kids with awards and recognitions honoring our Community Partnerships.
At PAL we strive to provide meaningful opportunities for local underprivileged and at-risk youth to thrive, and our gala dinner is our premier event to raise the crucial funds to ensure our success. Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting PAL programs and ensuring that our youth have the tools they need to become successful members of the community.
This year our dinner will take place on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the San Mateo County Event Center - Cypress Hall. If you would like to attend or get involved, there are multiple ways to participate. You can volunteer at our event, or donate goods or services to our auctions. Tickets, tables, and sponsorships are also available NOW! You can purchase these items using the link below. Additionally, on April 24th, we will have our online auction through May 3rd. This will be a night of fun and we hope to see you there!

Angela Sakkos
In every newsletter, we will be spotlighting a PAL staff member or volunteer. Without them, our PAL programs would not be as successful as they are.
This month we are spotlighting:
Angela Sakkos, Community Services Supervisor
Born in Athens, Greece, Angela and her family moved to the US in 1971 and have lived on the Peninsula ever since. Angela began her career with the City of San Mateo in April 1987 as a part-time Recreation Specialist in Youth Services Division. She held several positions within the city and was promoted to Community Services Supervisor in 1995. Angela has spent most of her years working for the City of San Mateo working with children, teaching classes, running camps, and afterschool programs.
In mid- 2013 Angela rotated to the Senior Center for five years overseeing programs and services serving adults and seniors. It was while at the Senior Center that she helped develop the "Get Around Transportation Program" for Seniors. She later moved back as the Enrichment Supervisor with a focus on working with outside companies/organizations to offer Youth and Adult Enrichment programs, Athletic classes and camps, and Summer Enrichment Camps.
Some of the highlights of Angela’s career with the City include being part of the teams that created and implemented Summer Flex Camps, the Senior Center Get Around Transportation Program, and the beginning phase of the Senior Center modernization.
A long-time resident of the City of San Mateo, Angela has an AA in Liberal Arts from Skyline College, an Early Childhood Education Certificate, and a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration from San Francisco State University. She enjoys gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, music and traveling.
