PAL's Annual Golf Tournament Was The Best By Par!

On Friday, October 6th we held our annual golf tournament at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links golf course. The golf tournament is a fun and interactive way for donors to support PAL programs. For an entire day, donors got to play a round of golf, eat, drink, and be merry! It's a memorable time for PAL staff, sponsors, and donors to get to know each other.
Our golf tournament helps us raise funds to support our vital youth development programs and safety net services offered to youth, families, and the local community. This year we had almost 30 one-of-a-kind raffle prizes, including exclusive family fun excursions, wine tasting activities, Lake Tahoe winter recreation packages, autographed sports memorabilia, exclusive high-end jewelry, and more! It was so much fun watching local community members come together to support PAL.
We'd also like to give a special shoutout to WAG!, Stephen Silver, and S.C. Properties for sponsoring our tournament. Huge THANK YOU to Esposto's Catering for sponsoring lunch and the California Pizza Kitchen for sponsoring the obstacle course putting game.
We are so grateful for our supporters and we could not have done this without their help. Thank you and we look forward to another successful tournament next year.

Saying Farewell to our Former Funding Development Director Lisa Tartaglia

Everyone at PAL would like to give a huge heartfelt thank you to Lisa Tartaglia, past PAL Development Director, for her dedication and hard work over the years to help make PAL the successful organization it is today. In September, Lisa left PAL to work for another local non-profit organization. Lisa will be missed here at PAL but we wish her the best of luck on her new path!
For any fund development questions, please reach out to Jenna Nguyen (nguyen@cityofsanmateo.org) or smpal@cityofsanmateo.org
Thank you for everything, Lisa! Best of luck on your future endeavors.
Tyler Douglass
In every newsletter, we will be spotlighting a PAL staff member or volunteer. Without them, our PAL programs would not be as successful as they are.
This month we are spotlighting:
Tyler Douglass, Recreation Specialist
Hello everyone. My name is Tyler Douglass and I am a recreation specialist with PAL. I’ve been working with PAL for a few months now and I have really been enjoying the work that I do. I have a lot of fun working with my coworkers and I have been able to further improve my communication skills through this job.
For work, I do community outreach as well as help teach after school classes for children. I help run various classes such as soccer, ice hockey, cooking, and cookie club. It is fun being able to see new faces and being out in the community talking to people.
A fun fact about me is that I am currently a firefighter explorer with San Mateo Consolidated. I am pursing a career in firefighter with the end goal of becoming a firefighter paramedic. I want to play an active role in providing help to those in my community.
Our Fall programs have begun and some are still available for enrollment. We launched some brand new programs this Fall, including the Cookie Club, Jiu-Jitsu, and Monday CRAFTernoons! To see which programs are still available, please visit: www.sanmateorec.org. Kids must have an active PAL membership in order to enroll. Complete a PAL membership form here.
PAL's Place Reopens on Sept 5th!
PAL's Place, at the Shoreview Recreation Center, reopens on Tuesday, September 5th! It's a dedicated space for middle schoolers to visit, hang out, play sports, or do homework in the presence of other PAL members. It's a collaborative space with computers, comfortable chairs, PlayStation, and sports equipment to check out for use in the park.
PAL's Place is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. This awesome place is for PAL members only. Becoming a member is easy, fill out this membership form here. Upon completing your membership form, you can register for the program at any recreation center or on-line using the Activity # 532130.
