Celebrating 25 years of San Mateo PAL

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the San Mateo Police Activities League, beginning with some of our first activities such as Camping, Judo, Soccer, and Junior Giants in 1997. We have been working hard to build the bond between cops & kids and support youth and families in our community with social, emotional, and physical development opportunities. And now, it's time to celebrate!

"Our most important resource is
the youth of our Community."

-Bob Binn

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who dedicated his life's work to fighting for social, racial, educational, and economic equality. To commemorate his legacy, the City of San Mateo built the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in the late 1960s as a community park and neighborhood ...resource. It's also where many of our PAL classes, family events, athletic programs, and holiday celebrations take place!!

If you haven't already, you can swing by the King Center during operating hours to check out the facility or speak to one of the on-site staff members to inquire about the PAL program. We offer a diverse range of classes and activities that are accessible to kids ages 5-17, and some offerings this season include ice hockey, cooking, musical theater, and martial arts. You can also visit our website (www.sanmateopal.org) for more information and to sign-up as a PAL member. Memberships are FREE!

Happy New Year from San Mateo PAL!! Wishing you a happy, peaceful, and prosperous #2023!! #SanMateoPAL #Welcome2023 #NewYearNewBeginnings✨🎆🎊

Tonight our San Mateo Police Department Police Explorer Post 211 had their holiday meeting and it was a fun one for sure. It was wonderful to share our “meeting” with our fellow Explorers & Advisors from the San Bruno Police Department. These two groups have bonded through shared ...experiences at the Explorer Academy, during Explorer Challenges, and more. They have all proven themselves to be great examples of youth leaders and we all should be proud they represent our communities.

If you have a young adult you think could benefit from our program and/or may be looking to give back to their community in some way, or may even be interested in a law enforcement career, police exploring may be just what they need. Our hearts and stomachs were so full from this past weekend’s Santa Brunch. 🥰🎅🤶🎄

Santa, Mrs. Clause, the Elves, Board Members, @sanmateopd , our Explorers, PAL staff, and the Prevention/Intervention services team all came together for our first in-person Santa Brunch since ...covid. We are so grateful for everyone’s help in putting on another wonderful event for our PAL families. 💖 We hope to have more events like this in the future. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

During halftime at the 2022 CCCAA Football State Championship game today, PAL was presented with a $1000 donation from the California Community College Athletic Association and @collegeofsanmateo Bulldogs football program. Chief Barberini and PAL Executive Director Tracey Unga were there to accept ...on behalf our members, our Board, and our staff. We are extremely grateful for their generosity. Go Bulldogs! 🏈

🎄🌧️Rain or shine, Santa and his team showed up today at the King Center for our annual Brunch with Santa. Many braved the wind and rain to join us for a yummy meal, to hear a 📖 story from 🤶🏻 Mrs. Claus, to tell 🎅🏻 Santa what they want for Christmas, and to visit our toy shop ...🧸.

We’re grateful to our Board Members, our staff, San Mateo Police Department, our Explorers and our Prevention/Intervention services team for helping us put together another wonderful event for our families.

Happy Holidays from San Mateo PAL!

We can’t say thank you enough to Detective Thornburg (a Marine) for facilitating a toy donation through the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. With the assistance of Workday volunteers, officers, Rookie, and PAL staff, we were able to wrap 500 toys for our upcoming police and PAL holiday events. ...

The generosity of those who donated toys or time to assist us in bringing smiles to the faces of children in our community is what holiday spirit is all about. Thank you to the United States Marine Corp and to Workday employees for helping us ”Build the Bond Between Cops & Kids!”

It's happening, it's here! Today is #GivingTuesday and it's a wonderful opportunity to support a local charity of your choice. As you consider donating to a cause that is special to you, we hope you will think of San Mateo PAL and support our programs and services.

With ...your support, we can continue to make an impact on the local youth and their families, build community, and provide help and services to those in need. Your contributions will support social, emotional, and academic development, boost self-esteem, and promote mental and health awareness. Help us continue to "Build the Bond Between Cops & Kids". 💖
