Who We Are

San Mateo PAL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 1997 in collaboration with the San Mateo Police Department, and the San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department to keep our kids on track, in school and away from negative and troubling behaviors, such as drugs, gangs and poor choices.

We are a free membership based organization open to all youth ages 5 to 18 who reside or attend school in San Mateo. All San Mateo PAL activities are low-cost or offered at a nominal fee and further assistance is available with verified financial need. Over a thousand youth and hundreds of parents participate in San Mateo PAL activities every year.

What We Do

San Mateo PAL provides a variety of supervised recreational, social, and educational activities for San Mateo youth and their families.

We build mentorship relationships between police professionals and young people to help them navigate adverse life circumstances, mental health issues and potentially at-risk behaviors.

Our School Resource Officers, also known as SRO's, are assigned to San Mateo public middle schools and high schools. School Resource Officers are police officers, as well as educators, mentors and safety advocates.

We help "level the playing field" for at-risk youth by providing them with access to a wide range of activities and educational enrichment opportunities.
